About Connel
Connel Bradwell is a British-Canadian filmmaker and science communicator whose work bridges natural history, conservation, and inclusive storytelling. He produces impactful multimedia content working for leading platforms such as CBC, BBC Earth, and Love Nature, with a focus on sharing powerful narratives from the natural world that resonate with broad and diverse audiences.
His recent work includes Animal Pride, a feature-length documentary for CBC’s The Nature of Things that explores queerness in the natural world. Released in 2025, the film has earned multiple awards on the festival circuit, including Best Animal Behaviour Program at the 2025 International Wildlife Film Festival.
Connel is currently working on a CBC Short Doc about bird conservation and a series on plant life, continuing his commitment to telling stories that connect ecology with curiosity, identity, and community. His previous digital series for CBC include Coastlines, Out and About, and Hello Spring have reached millions of viewers and exemplify his blend of creative storytelling with science-based content.
In addition to his film and television work, Connel has a strong foundation in hands-on conservation. With experience in research and restoration, he has contributed to projects focused on threatened species and ecosystems, including work with orcas, migratory birds, and plant communities. He has particular expertise in bird and plant identification and has been deeply involved in habitat restoration efforts, including the removal of invasive species and the reintroduction of native flora.
As a science communicator with over a decade of experience, Connel leads workshops and educational programs across British Columbia, both in classrooms and in the field. His teaching emphasizes ecological literacy and fosters deeper relationships between people and place, with a focus on creating welcoming spaces for LGBTQ+ individuals and historically underrepresented communities in the sciences.
Whether he's in front of or behind the camera or in a classroom, Connel is driven by a belief that storytelling can inspire action, and that conservation is as much about people as it is about wild places.
